We wanted something different. Not beaches, not wine, not cities. Just snow, stars, and a chance to feel like we were somewhere completely new.

That’s how we ended up in Lapland, deep in the Arctic north, where the nights are long, the landscapes are pure white, and luxury takes on a whole new meaning.

What we found wasn’t just a winter wonderland. It was one of the most beautiful, intimate, and unexpectedly luxurious trips we’ve ever taken.

Chapter Trail

Our Glass Igloo and Arctic Dreams

We stayed at Levin Iglut in Finnish Lapland, just outside of Levi. Our room wasn’t a room at all—it was a private glass igloo, fully heated, with a bed positioned right under the stars.

The moment we stepped inside, we both went quiet. The world outside was glowing with snow, and above us, the sky stretched wide and clear.

That first night, we lay in bed watching the stars, wrapped in blankets, sipping hot chocolate. Around midnight, green and violet ribbons of light danced across the sky. My wife started crying—happy tears. I just held her hand and whispered, “This is real.”

Snow Days and Reindeer Rides

Every morning, we woke to snow falling softly over the trees. Breakfast was delivered in a basket—warm bread, local berries, smoked salmon, and yogurt with honey. We’d eat slowly, watching the snow pile higher outside.

One day, we went dog sledding through the forest, the silence broken only by the sound of paws in the snow. My wife stood at the front of the sled, wind in her face, laughing like a kid. Another afternoon, we rode with a Sámi guide on a reindeer safari, wrapped in furs, gliding through a frozen forest under the pale winter sun.

And then there was the private sauna and hot tub waiting for us back at the igloo. Nothing feels better than stepping into warm water with snowflakes falling on your face.

Nights Full of Wonder

Lapland at night is something else. It’s quiet in a way that feels sacred. No cars, no crowds, just the crunch of boots in fresh snow and the glow of lanterns lighting the path to dinner.

We had a special dinner at a glass-roofed restaurant, where the menu featured arctic char, root vegetables, and cloudberry desserts. The meal was slow and warm, and the view outside was pure white wilderness. My wife reached across the table and said, “I didn’t know a place like this existed.” I nodded, still amazed myself.

Later that night, we saw the northern lights again, stronger than before. We stood outside in our thermal suits, arms around each other, completely still. It was one of those moments where the world feels quiet and perfect, and you feel lucky just to be alive.

Evenings Meant to Savor

Every night we returned to Schloss Dürnstein for dinner. Their terrace restaurant sits right above the river, and as the sun went down, everything glowed—wine glasses, old stone walls, even the tablecloths caught the light. The food was seasonal and local, full of herbs and flavor. Every bite felt thoughtful. We lingered over dessert and espresso, not wanting the evening to end.

My wife looked out over the water, hair curled slightly from the breeze, and said, “This is the kind of place I want to grow old in.” I knew exactly what she meant.

Luxury in Stillness

Lapland showed us a different kind of luxury. It wasn’t designer bags or infinity pools. It was silence. Space. Firelight. A feeling of being wrapped in warmth, even in the middle of the snow-covered Arctic.

Everything was intentional. Every detail mattered. From the locally made wool slippers to the hand-carved wooden mugs, it felt like we were living inside a story.

On our last morning, we walked one final time through the woods behind our igloo. The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a soft pink glow over the snow. My wife stopped, turned to me, and said, “This is the most peaceful I’ve ever felt.”

So was I.

Lapland gave us something rare—a deep breath, a shared awe, and a kind of quiet we didn’t know we were missing. And now, every time I see snow or hear silence, I go right back to that place.

We’ll return one day. Because Lapland wasn’t just a trip. It was an experience that stayed with us, long after the snow melted.
