Nepal is a land of towering peaks, vibrant cultures, and extraordinary wildlife.

Recently, I had the opportunity to embark on the “Best of Nepal Tour,” an eight-day journey that took me from the bustling streets of Kathmandu to the serene lakes of Pokhara, and the dense jungles of Chitwan.

This Nepal adventure was made possible by my exceptional local travel expert, whose meticulous planning ensured an unforgettable experience. Join me as I recount each exhilarating day of this remarkable trip.

Chapter Trail

Stepping off the plane in Kathmandu, I was greeted by a friendly airport officer holding a sign with my name. This warm welcome set the tone for the rest of my journey.

After a smooth transfer to my centrally located hotel, I spent the afternoon exploring the vibrant local area, soaking in the sights, sounds, and scents of this bustling city.

Day 2: Exploring Kathmandu and Nagarkot

After a hearty breakfast, my guide met me at the hotel for a full-day sightseeing tour. Our first stop was the sacred Pashupatinath Temple, a significant Hindu pilgrimage site on the banks of the Bagmati River. Witnessing the rituals and ceremonies, including the traditional funerals at the cremation ghats, was a deeply moving experience.

Next, we visited the Boudhanath Stupa, often referred to as “Mini Tibet.”

The sight of this massive stupa surrounded by fluttering prayer flags and Tibetan monks performing their rituals was mesmerizing. In the afternoon, we drove to Bhaktapur, an ancient city rich in Newari culture and tradition. The intricate architecture and bustling markets were fascinating to explore.

Our day concluded with a drive to Nagarkot, a hill station famous for its stunning sunset views over the Himalayas. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the peaks of eight Himalayan ranges, including Mount Everest in the distance, were bathed in a golden glow—a sight that left me speechless.

Day 3: Journey to Chitwan and Jungle Activities

We departed early for Chitwan, a journey that took us through scenic mountain highways.

Upon arrival, I was welcomed by a naturalist from our lodge and treated to a delicious lunch. The afternoon’s activities included a jungle walk and a visit to the Tharu villages. The Tharu people, indigenous to the region, showcased their unique culture through traditional dances, adding a rich cultural dimension to our wildlife adventure.

Day 4: Exploring Chitwan National Park

The day began with a serene canoe ride on the Rapti River, where I spotted various water birds and crocodiles. This was followed by a visit to the Elephant Breeding Center, where I learned about the efforts to preserve these magnificent creatures.

The highlight of the day was a thrilling jeep safari through Chitwan National Park. Spotting a one-horned rhinoceros in the dense forest was an exhilarating moment, and though the elusive tiger remained hidden, the experience was unforgettable.

Day 5: Drive to Pokhara and City Tour

The drive to Pokhara was scenic, with stunning views of the Himalayas. Pokhara, known for its breathtaking lakes and mountain vistas, lived up to its reputation.

In the afternoon, I explored the city, visiting Bindhyabasini Temple, the dramatic Seti Gorge, the mystical Devi’s Fall, and the intriguing Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave. Each site offered unique insights into the natural and cultural beauty of Pokhara.

Day 6: Sarangkot Sunrise and Peace Stupa Hike

An early morning excursion to Sarangkot to witness the sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges was a highlight of my trip. The golden hues lighting up the snow-capped peaks were truly awe-inspiring.

Later, a hike to the Peace Stupa provided panoramic views of Pokhara valley and Phewa Lake, framed by the majestic Himalayas. The serene atmosphere of the White Pagoda atop the hill was a perfect place for reflection.

Day 7: Return to Kathmandu

After a memorable stay in Pokhara, we embarked on a drive back to Kathmandu.

The journey was filled with beautiful landscapes and gave me time to reflect on the incredible experiences of the past week. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, I had the afternoon to myself to explore the city at my own pace, revisiting favorite spots and shopping for souvenirs.
