Join me on my recent solo 7-day vacation in Spain. I visited Asturias, where I immersed myself in its natural wonders and vibrant traditions. From encounters with bears in the mountains to riding the waves of the Cantabrian Sea, every moment was a testament to the beauty and diversity of this enchanting region.
Chapter Trail
Day 1 to Day 2: Arriving in Asturias
Upon arrival in Asturias, I was greeted by the serene beauty of Pola de Somiedo, nestled in the heart of the Somiedo Natural Park. After settling into my hotel, I wasted no time delving into the adventure that awaited me.
A horseback riding tour offered me a glimpse of the stunning landscapes that would be my playground for the coming days. As I savored the local gastronomy during dinner, I eagerly anticipated the adventures that lay ahead.
The following day, I embarked on a hike through the Lake Valley, a trek rewarded with the sight of a glacial lake shimmering amidst the rugged terrain.
The highlight of the day came in the afternoon, as I joined a wildlife watching excursion in search of the elusive bears that call these mountains home. With bated breath, I observed these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, a truly humbling experience.
Day 3: Saliencia Valleys
Today was dedicated to exploring the rich history and culture of Asturias.
Following a transfer to the Saliencia Valleys, I embarked on a journey along the ancient “Camin Real,” tracing the footsteps of Roman soldiers and merchants. Amidst breathtaking mountain vistas, I learned of the enduring legacy of the “Vaqueiros de Alzada” who once roamed these lands. As the day drew to a close, I found solace in the comfort of my hotel in Teverga, reflecting on the stories etched into every step of my journey.
Day 4 to Day 5: Camín Real de la Mesa
Continuing my adventure, I ventured into cowboy territory along the Camín Real de la Mesa. Surrounded by untamed wilderness, I marveled at the rugged beauty of this land, where wolves and bears roam freely.
After a day filled with exploration, I indulged in a rejuvenating spa bath, ready to embrace the next leg of my journey.
The following day brought a change of scenery as I paddled along the tranquil waters of the Nalón River, pausing to admire pastoral landscapes and take a refreshing swim. As the sun dipped below the horizon, I embarked on a scenic walk along the Ruta de Los Miradores, offering panoramic views of the Cantabrian Sea coastline.
Day 6 to Day 7: Cantabrian Sea
As my adventure drew to a close, I seized the opportunity to ride the waves of the Cantabrian Sea. Whether gliding along the Pravia estuary on a Stand Up Paddleboard or testing my skills with a surfing initiation class, the thrill of the ocean was an exhilarating finale to my journey.
As I bid farewell to Asturias, I knew that this was not goodbye, but rather, see you soon. With a heart full of gratitude and memories to last a lifetime, I look forward to returning with my family for a small group tour, eager to share the magic of Asturias with those closest to me.
Conclusion
Asturias captivated me with its wild beauty, rich history, and warm hospitality. From the heights of the Cordillera to the shores of the Cantabrian Sea, every moment was a testament to the wonders of nature and the enduring spirit of this remarkable region.
As I return home, I carry with me not only cherished memories but also a newfound appreciation for the treasures that await those who dare to explore beyond the beaten path. Until next time, Asturias.
