It is a capsule hotel (podtel) – located in Spain – perfect for travelers seeking the experience of total disconnection from the outside world through deep immersion in the environment.
Self-sufficient Eco-Hotel
District Hive is the first 100% self-sufficient and transportable module that can be deployed on any terrain, even where construction is impossible. This module, created by the Spanish studio MOHO Arquitectos, has been designed from a multidisciplinary perspective and understands tourism in a sustainable, ecological, and responsible way. It enhances the value of nature by accessing it without leaving a trace. There is no negative environmental impact on the area since it consumes no local resources. Once removed, the site would remain in the same state as before.
This eco-hotel can generate water from the air and has a wastewater management system. Blackwater is transformed into ashes, while greywater goes through a double-filtering process that converts it into irrigation water. The podtel generates its electricity from solar energy and can store enough power for four days without sunlight. The complete autonomy of the module makes complementary services unnecessary, thus optimizing resources and guaranteeing the reduction of its carbon footprint.
A Versatile Construction
The building is a small 35 square-meter module divided into several spaces: a bathroom, a kitchen-living-dining room, a bedroom (one double bed and two hidden single beds), closets, multifunctional modular shelves, and a small and necessary installation room to house all the technical equipment.
The podtel also has an open terrace for stargazing. In addition, all the furniture, storage spaces, walls, and finishing were created with the utmost care and detail, so the final result inspires an intentional feeling of luxury and warmth.
Tourism of the Future
Automation and the use of new technologies are fundamental for the development of podtel. A mobile app controls all devices and provides information on remaining energy levels, solar production, and water quality. It also controls the opening of doors, interior odor, temperature, lighting, sound, TV, a la carte food and drink purchase, among other functionalities.
The capsule is controlled by Artificial Intelligence called “Hivemind.” It has a built-in system and a motherboard that controls all systems and power consumption. It is intuitive and will assist guests throughout their stay to ensure a connected and high-tech experience while relaxing and enjoying the fantastic scenery in absolute privacy.
It is undoubtedly an exclusive model that aims to enhance the landscape, finding those fabulous and unique places to make them accessible for protected contemplation all year round. The ultimate goal is to provide guests with a unique tourist experience and a delight to the senses.
