Destination Hero: Camille Champenois

Camille has been working as a travel designer for three years now. While designing customized trips in Peru, she has met many traveler profiles: families, couples, friends, honeymooners, photographers, trekking lovers, gastronomic travelers, spiritual travelers, luxury travelers, etc.

In addition, her work is certified by the “Tour Cert Institute” for our responsible practices and our commitment to more sustainable tourism in Peru.

For all these reasons and more, she is undoubtedly a true Destination Hero.

Q&A

In which areas of the country do you work?

We work from Lima, but our travelers travel all over Peru, from the most touristic routes to trails that are not even registered on maps. From the coast to the jungle, passing through the desert, highlands, and the Andes, we work with all country areas, as long as the safety of the travelers is assured.

What is unique about these areas?

These areas are exceptional because they are unique. We could say that Peru is divided into three zones: the coast, the highlands, and the jungle. The incredible thing is that everything changes from one region to another. That is to say that the landscapes, towns, food, people, language, and climate are different when you travel from one area to another. Trekking in Peru is like taking various mini trips within the same country!

What travel tips would you give a Baboo traveler to help them travel like a local?

“Nothing certain, everything possible.” That would be my motto for everyone who wants to travel like a local. Punctuality, commitment, and relationship to time are very different from what I was used to in France. One has to be flexible and accept the unexpected because, in the end, everything works out well!

What place and activity should not be overlooked?

Food has great importance in the daily life of Peruvians. It should be remembered that Peru has been awarded “World’s Leading Culinary Destination” by the World Travel Awards 2021, an award we have won every year since 2012 (minus 2020). The food in Peru is delicious, and I recommend all travelers venture out and try Peruvian dishes and not limit themselves to international foods.

If you could only recommend one of your programs, which would be? Why?

The best trip I can recommend is a tailor-made trip tailored to the traveler’s interests. The already published programs are ideas, bases that we use to create a 100% customized trip. I like the program “Cusco: Panorama of an Andean Region” because it focuses only on the Cusco region. It allows you to spend enough time to discover the essentials of the region and get out of the usual and discover the more authentic rural life of Cusco. It offers a good mix of culture, history, landscapes, human experiences, trekking, and gastronomy.

My second choice would go for the trip “The essentials of Peru: low carbon travel”, because it allows discovering the central regions of southern Peru (multi-region and an all round trip) with a lot of sports activities, allowing to get away from the typical tourist places and also allowing to enjoy the incredible landscapes that Peru offers.

One has to be flexible and accept the unexpected because, in the end, everything works out well!

We are very committed to bring tourism in Peru towards a more sustainable and responsible tourism. We support the local economy by selecting hotels managed by independent Peruvians whenever possible. The communities we work with receive our support (labor, financial assistance, material loans) when it comes to new projects for the good of the community. We fight against illegal labor and corruption, which is very common in Peru and for that reason, all our guides, drivers and other service providers are operating under the law in full transparency and legality.

We are also committed to fight against the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in Peru.ring the pandemic — there has been an increase in private and independent trips in which passengers travel on their own, but they consult with us to organize all the logistics for them. In addition, there has been an increase in family travel and the search for remote locations.
